PETALING JAYA (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - A woman has been detained for allegedly insulting the Malaysian King on her Facebook page.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said it has the power to investigate such cases and that she might also be charged for sedition, following police reports made against the Facebook posting.

The Star did not name her but many Malaysian blogs and websites named her as Melissa Gooi.

An MCMC spokesman said the woman was detained by the commission with the assistance of the Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigations Department on Tuesday morning.
