Training plane crashes into waters off Batam, no deaths reported

A Cessna 152 training flight crashed into the waters off Batam early this morning, about 40 minutes after it took off.
There were no deaths but the plane remained submerged in the water as rescuers evacuated the instructor, Lidya Rossa, 39, and cadet pilot Agus Nabil, 19.
The plane, reportedly belonging to Flybest Flight Academy, took off around 6.40am local time (7.40am Singapore time) from Batam's Hang Nadim airport and was headed towards its training grounds at Tanjung Pinang but crashed into the waters near Pulau Ngenang and hit a coral reef.
A Transport Ministry spokesman said around 7am, the pilot requested to turn back the flight, citing engine problem.
