Suu Kyi urges Myanmar community in Singapore to contribute to home country

Ms Aung Sang Suu Kyi on Sunday urged the Myanmar community in Singapore to contribute to their home country in whichever way they can.
Speaking in Burmese to a 5,800-strong crowd at Resorts World Convention Centre, the opposition leader and democracy icon said those living, working and studying abroad did not have to return to Myanmar, but can support their motherland by remembering the poor or encouraging business investments in the country.
Students who may be tempted to remain abroad, where work and living conditions are more favourable, should return to Myanmar where they can make conditions more favourable, she said in her 28-minute speech.
In a question-and-answer session that followed, Ms Suu Kyi fielded questions on education, the economy and the political system.
