Strong 6.3-magnitude quake off Indonesia, no tsunami alert

JAKARTA (AFP) - A strong 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Indonesia on Wednesday but no tsunami alert was issued, the meteorology agency said.

The quake struck at 3.56pm (4.56pm on Wednesday, Singapore time) at a depth of 12 km and was 157 km north-west of Tual in the Maluku island chain, the Indonesia Meteorology, Geophysics and Climatology Agency said on its website.

The agency did not issue any tsunami alert.
