Sabah stand-off: Malaysian forces widen search; 1 gunman 'shot dead' this morning

KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysia's security forces have widened their search for Philippine militants in Sabah's east coast, amid concerns that they have escaped to surrounding areas.

Authorities had imposed a cordon around the remote village of Tanduo to scour for survivors, after bombs were dropped in the area on Tuesday (Mar 5).

"During the operations, we detected enemy movements to certain areas and it is possible that the location of operations needs to be expanded from the original zone," police chief Ismail Omar was quoted saying by local media in Sabah.

He said the security forces were pursuing them over an area of 4 sq km.
