Philippine police tighten security amid bomb scare
MANILA (AP) - Philippine police say they have found bomb parts in a budget hotel in Manila's tourist district. The discovery has prompted tighter security in public places and more intense street patrols.
Police say a janitor found more than 100 pieces of M16 rifle and shotgun ammunition that had mostly been emptied of their gunpowder, along with two metal pipes, blasting caps and cellphone parts.
The discovery was made after the guest checked out on Tuesday.
Police Inspector Arnold Santos says it is possible the man may have already assembled a bomb for still-unknown reasons.
