Malaysian opposition politician hits out at Lee Kuan Yew's new book
GEORGE TOWN - Malaysian politician Karpal Singh on Saturday criticised Singapore's former prime minister Lee Kuan Yew for doubting the opposition's ability to lead the country, saying it was time for Mr Lee to "quietly ride into the sunset".
The Malay Mail Online website reported that Mr Karpal, the chairman of the Democratic Action Party (DAP), had referred to Mr Lee's recently released book "One Man's View of the World" at a press conference here and said that Mr Lee's views on the Malaysian opposition coalition Pakatan Rakyat (PR) were "without any basis".
"His comment that Pakatan Rakyat will not effectively govern the country had it been successful in winning over federal power is without any basis," Mr Karpal was quoted as saying.
Alhough PR had only 89 representatives in Parliament, he added, they were of "better quality" than the Cabinet under Barisan Nasional.
