Malaysia radio station will continue to air Chinese dialect news bulletins
KUALA LUMPUR (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - Malaysia's government-owned radio station Ai FM will continue to air news bulletins in Chinese dialects, a move welcomed by the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA).
MCA deputy party president Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong said he was informed of the decision by Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek on Monday.
Dr Wee said the decision would help the younger generation learn these dialects.
It was reported earlier this month that the Ai FM management would stop airing news in Cantonese, Hokkien, Hakka and Teochew effective Jan 1, 2014.
