Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak told voters in Sabah on Wednesday that supporting the ruling Barisan Nasional meant safeguarding the state's borders and autonomy.

"One vote for BN means one vote for a strong guarantee of Sabah's sovereignty and security," he told hundreds of Keningau residents at a meet-the-people session in the heartland of the Kadazandusuns on Wednesday.

He said the issue was topmost in the minds of voters who had not forgotten the Feb 12 invasion by Sulu gunmen that killed 10 Malaysian servicemen.

"We bring reassurance to Sabahans to resolve this problem firmly and diligently. The BN's commitment is clear on this," Mr Najib said.

The meet-the-people session here is part of Mr Najib's two-day tour of Sabah to shore up support for the BN in the crucial state seen as one of the coalition's strongholds along with Sarawak and Johor.
