KUALA LUMPUR - A senior official at Umno, Malaysia's largest political party, has urged two of its partners in the ruling coalition to reconsider their decision to avoid the Cabinet - a decision that followed their washout performances at the recent general election.
At a time when the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition needed stabilising and support, it was a not a good move for the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) and Gerakan to refuse Cabinet positions, said Umno information chief Ahmad Maslan.
Both MCA and Gerakan represented the Chinese community. Mr Maslan was speaking to reporters after launching a health product on Saturday, according to national news agency Bernama.
MCA won seven out of 37 parliamentary seats contested while Gerakan won one parliamentary seat.
