Malaysia court acquits cop for teen death, reinforcing police brutality concerns

KUALA LUMPUR (AP) - A Malaysian court has acquitted a policeman on charges of causing a teenager's death in a case that reinforced concerns about police brutality.

Jenain Subi is Malaysia's first policeman ever charged with a suspect's killing. Last year, a court in central Selangor state convicted him of culpable homicide after he admitted firing shots during a car chase that ended in 15-year-old Aminulrasyid Amzah's death in 2010.

The High Court quashed Jenain's conviction and five-year prison sentence on Wednesday after he appealed. It ruled he fired to stop the car and not to kill the boy.

Aminulrasyid was killed by a bullet to the head while driving without a license at night.
