JOHOR BARU (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - Police will have access to every closed-circuit television camera (CCTVs) in the state under the SafeCam PDRM project which is the latest plan to reduce crime.

It would allow police to gain access to the 19,336 CCTVs that had been installed in government buildings, residential areas, shoplots, offices and other public places throughout the state, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said.

There should be greater cooperation between the police, resident associations, business owners and the private sector to enable the project to have immediate effect, he said after attending a crime prevention programme on Sunday.

Mr Hishammuddin said Johor Baru was chosen for the SafeCam PDRM project due to the high number of CCTVs in the area.
