JAKARTA (AFP) - Indonesian forces killed two terrorist suspects in an ambush, police said on Saturday, leaving one officer dead in a shoot-out.

"Two terror suspects were killed in Solo, central Java, on Friday night by the anti-terror police unit Detachment 88. One other was arrested," national police spokesman Boy Rafli Amar told reporters.

"They were armed and one of the police officers was also shot dead." Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said the men were believed to be responsible for several shootings in Solo. He said they were shot outside a minimart in Ngruki village, considered a hotbed of militant activity.

He did not specify which group the men were suspected of belonging to.
