PETALING JAYA (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - Malaysia's Election Commission will hold a special meeting next Wednesday to decide on the dates for nomination and polling for the 13th general elections.

In a statement by the Commision's Secretary Datuk Kamaruddin Mohamed, the EC said on Friday that it had already received official notification on the dissolution of the Parliament as well as all State Legislative Assemblies with the exception of Sarawak.

The term of the east Malaysian state legislature will only expire in 2016 as it had held its last state elections in 2011.

Datuk Kamaruddin said that, according to Article 55 of the Constitution, the EC must hold elections within 60 days of the dissolution of Parliament.
