BANDUNG, Indonesia (AP) - Officials say an overcrowded passenger bus has slammed into a large rock on Indonesia's main island of Java, killing 16 people.

Police spokesman Colonel Martinus Sitompul says 26 other people were injured in the accident, which occurred Wednesday in West Java province's Puncak town.

Col Sitompul says the bus was carrying 75 passengers from the neighboring province of Banten to the West Java district of Cianjur. He says the bus was moving uncontrollably when it slammed into the rock.

A local transportation official says the bus was over its passenger capacity.
