Controversial UMNO women chief to be Najib's special adviser: The Star
CONTROVERSIAL former Malaysian senator Shahrizat Abdul Jalil is expected to be appointed special adviser to Prime Minister Najib Razak, a news report says, but the premier has declined to confirm the rumoured appointment with the media.
On Friday, Malaysian daily The Star reported that the UMNO women's chief, who stepped down from her ministerial post last year over a multi-million-ringgit financial fraud involving her family, will be made a special adviser on women's affairs.
But when Mr Najib was asked to comment on the report at a press conference in Putrajaya, he said "just leave it as that" without elaborating further, says news portal Malaysiakini.
Ms Shahrizat faced a credibility crisis in 2011 when opposition politician Rafizi Ramli unearthed questionable financial records related to a cattle firm run by her family.
