KUALA LUMPUR - Controversial private detective P. Balasubramaniam, died on Friday reportedly of a heart attack, weeks after returning home vowing to expose the truth behind the murder of a Mongolian woman in 2006.

Mr Balasubramaniam, 53, left the country in 2008 after issuing a statutory declaration which stated that Prime Minister Najib Razak knew Ms Altantuya Shaariibuu who was shot dead and blown up in 2006. Mr Najib says he has never met her.

He returned home last month, saying that he wanted to get justice for Ms Altantuya and the two policemen convicted of her murder.

Lawyer and opposition MP R. Sivarasa confirmed that Mr Balasubramaniam died on the way to hospital after suffering breathing difficulties at home at 1.30pm on Friday. He had a check-up with the doctors on Friday, and was due to have a bypass operation in about three
weeks, Mr Siavarasa said.
