Cambodian opposition chief returns home amid stalemate
PHNOM PENH (AP) - Cambodia's opposition leader has returned from abroad to lead his party's challenge to last month's election results.
Cambodia National Rescue Party leader Sam Rainsy's return on Friday from the United States could accelerate resolution of the country's political stand-off, which many fear may lead to violent confrontations.
The opposition has threatened to hold a mass demonstration if an impartial committee does not resolve complaints over alleged massive election irregularities.
Prime Minister Hun Sen's government responded by deploying troops and armoured vehicles into the capital to keep order.
