US stocks pare gains but finish solidly higher

NEW YORK (AFP) - United States stocks pared gains but closed solidly higher on Tuesday, with action focused on Delta Airlines as it buys a stake in Virgin Atlantic and moves higher by Apple, Google and Intel pushing the Nasdaq up.
Also helping were gains in Europe's markets on the back of a surge in German investor sentiment, to a seven-month high.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 79.10 points (0.60 per cent) at 13,248.98 in closing trade.
The broad-market S&P 500 added 9.33 (0.66 per cent) at 1,427.88, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite rose 44.26 points (1.49 per cent) to 3,022.30.
