Singapore shares end higher but weak sentiments persist

Share prices on the Singapore bourse rose, with the benchmark Straits Times Index ending the day higher by 9.12 points or 0.3 per cent at 3,038.73.
Other Asian markets swung between gains and losses against a weak macro backdrop and as investors digested the effects the crippling superstorm that has inundated the east coast of the United States including New York, its financial capital.
Overall sentiments remained bearish in the local bourse with losers outnumbering gainers by 208 to 124 while 469 counters were unchanged. Turnover stood at 1.74 billion shares worth $1.03 billion.
