Singapore inflation eases to 3.6% in January

CONSUMER price rises in Singapore eased in January across all measures of inflation.

Overall inflation rose by 3.6 per cent in January from a year ago, down from December's 4.3 per cent rise, according to the Department of Statistics.

Pushing up prices in January was a jump in transport costs, which rose 8.5 per cent in the period. Housing costs, including accommodation costs, also climbed by 4.4 per cent.

Excluding imputed rentals, a type of accommodation cost, inflation was a smaller 2.9 per cent in January. This was also down from 3.8 per cent in December.
