Manufacturing output falls in December amid electronics slump
Singapore's manufacturers suffered a decline in production last month, dragged down by the ailing electronics sector.
Industrial output fell 0.6 per cent in December compared to the same month the previous year, according to figures released today by the Economic Development Board. The drop was led by electronics manufacturers, who cranked out 16.9 per cent less production over this period.
On a month-on-month basis, however, manufacturing output grew 5.4 per cent last month from November.
For the whole of last year, the manufacturing sector logged barely any growth. Production in 2012 inched up only 0.1 per cent over 2011, again on the back of poor performance in the electronics cluster.
