Derivatives trading on SGX rises in August but total securities turnover falls
The total volume of derivatives traded on the Singapore Exchange (SGX) continued to rise last month from a year ago, even as total securities turnover dropped.
Futures and options contracts traded in August rose 32 per cent over a year ago to 8.6 million, the bourse operator said on Wednesday.
But the total value of securities traded slipped 8 per cent on-year to $27.3 billion. On a daily basis, the average value of securities traded dropped by a smaller 4 per cent to $1.4 billion due to one fewer trading day in August compared with the previous year.
Turnover on the SGX's Catalist board jumped five times in August from a year ago to $1.4 billion, the SGX said.
