Boehner renews call for US fiscal talks, 'no line in the sand'
WASHINGTON (REUTERS) - US House Speaker John Boehner renewed his call on Tuesday for deficit-reduction talks with President Barack Obama and signalled that the discussions would be wide open.
"There is nothing on the table, there's nothing off the table," Mr Boehner told reporters, adding there was "no line in the sand".
Mr Boehner spoke to reporters after a meeting with Republican members of the House of Representatives. Members emerged from the meeting saying they would insist on deficit-reduction negotiations with Mr Obama as a condition for raising the federal debt limit. The US Treasury expects to exhaust all of its remaining borrowing capacity under the current US$16.7 trillion (S$20.8 trillion) cap by Oct 17.
