Beijing - It has been 14 years since martial arts epic The Grandmasters was first a twinkle in Hong Kong director Wong Kar Wai's eye.

After a process including six years of desk work, three years of field visits and three years of location shooting, the film was at long last screened in public in Beijing on Sunday and quickly proclaimed a masterpeice, said Ming Pao Daily News. It opens in China tomorrow (Tuesday).

At a press conference for the movie, stars such as Hong Kong's Tony Leung Chiu Wai and China's Zhang Ziyi aired their grievances about the arduous shoot.

Zhang likened the never-ending shoot to a "pirate's ship".
