Instead of doctors, lawyers or bankers, young people these days hope to be the next Mark Zuckerberg and Jack Dorsey.

The co-founder of Facebook and creator of Twitter, respectively, have helped to make the technopreneur lifestyle glamorous here. And incubators - companies which support and fund start-ups - say more people are going into the sector.

A study done this year by audit firm Deloitte shows at least 863 companies in the interactive digital media industry. Of these, 20 per cent are start-ups - companies which have been around for five years or less, with no more than 10 employees.

The sweet success stories of local start-ups, acquired for millions of dollars, may be responsible for drumming up the interest. Government funding to develop the interactive digital media sector is also available in Singapore.
