HANSEL & GRETEL, A PANTOMIME

Written by Alfian Sa'at and directed by Dim Sum Dolly Pam Oei, this annual Christmas pantomime by Wild Rice puts a Singapore spin to the familiar Brothers Grimm fairytale. It has the new pop-star stepmother of Hansel and Gretel abandoning them in the jungles of Mandai as she reckons the family budget cannot support the family of four in the tight economy. Starring Sebastian Tan, Dwayne Lau, Denise Tan, Siti Khalijah and Vernetta Lopez as well as 30 young talents aged from four to 12 from Wild Rice's First Stage! Programme.

CHILDAID 2012: THE ELECTRIC EDITION

This year's ChildAid Concert will feature the Orchestra Of The Music Makers, which will back up 140 performers in a programme that includes song-and-dance pop numbers, classical music and dance genres from ballet to hip-hop. Proceeds from this concert go to The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund, which helps children from low-income families with school expenses, and The Business Times Budding Artists Fund, a programme which provides an arts education to underprivileged but artistically gifted children.

ALINA IBRAGIMOVA

Contest

2012 NATIONAL CHINESE MUSIC COMPETITION

Local and international adjudicators will judge this year's National Chinese Music Competition. They include Young Artist Award recipient and erhu specialist Ling Hock Siang, guzheng specialist Wang Chang Yuan from the United States, and pipa specialist Hao Yi Fan from China. The preliminary and final rounds will be from Tuesday to Dec 7. Masterclasses will be held on Dec 8 from 9am to 5pm. Selected prize winners will perform with the Singapore Chinese Orchestra at the Prize Winners' Concert.
