Budding artists or avid storytellers can vie for more than $7,000 worth of prizes, including professional graphic design tablets at this first comic and manga design contest held by the Singapore National Co-operative Federation. To enter, create a comic strip with thrilling storylines and moving scenes based on one of five co-operative values – co-operation, self- help, equality, mutual help and care for others. ASSOCIATE ARTIST PLAY READINGS PRESENTED BY CHECKPOINT THEATRE

The Checkpoint Associate Artists -Lucas Ho, Faith Ng, Joel Tan and Shiv Tandan - who represent the next generation of theatre-makers, will present dramatised readings of their works-in-progress. They comprise full-length plays and selections from the Associate Artists Monologue Project. They include Our Lady Of Lourdes by Tan, a full-length play directed by Claire Wong with two improbable and difficult love stories that transcend age, time and social convention. The monologues by Ho, Ng, Tan and Tandan are about a relationship mapped by taxicab journeys, a grandmother and her food, and finding and losing oneself.

This pantomime by Wild Rice is about dreams, a mother’s love and the perils of gambling. It is about Jack and his mother, Widow Neo, who are forced to sell their beloved pet cow when there are bills to be paid. This play explores a child’s journey through the national examination. Xiao Li, the protagonist, struggles to find herself while trying to fulfil parental expectations. The audience can become active partners of the play, reliving the gruelling exam-taking experience. The play also features children’s magician Mr Bottle.
