The Victoria Theatre and Victoria Concert Hall will open their doors for the first time in August, to Singapore International Festival of Arts audiences.
The newly-refurbished grande dames of the Singapore performing arts scene will also be open for bookings in April, for shows to be staged from October onwards. The theatres will be fully operational from 2015, and cost $158 million to revamp.
The previously 904-seat theatre and 883-seat concert hall will now seat 614 and 673 audience members respectively. The number of seats was reduced to improve acoustics, according to a National Arts Council spokesman. The entire compound will span 13,800 sq m when complete, the equivalent of two Olympic soccer fields.
The theatre and concert hall will be managed and operated by The Esplanade Co Ltd, which also manages the Drama Centre Theatre and Black Box. They will also contain new music, dance and theatre rehearsals rooms, as well as food and beverage outlets.
