The Arts House celebrates 9th birthday with comeback festival
The Arts House is expanding its usual three-day birthday party to a three-week festival for its ninth anniversary.
On the programme from March 13 to 31 are book launches in English and Malay, literary games and adaptations of books into music, theatre and dance.
It is a comeback for the arts centre, formerly Singapore's Parliament House, which has been overlooked by entertainment-seekers of late. Bookings by arts groups and corporate bodies to use the venue dropped 40 per cent in 2010 as its distinctive colonial facade was obscured by the construction work around the nearby Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall.
However, the Arts House has since reinvented itself as a platform for up-and-coming local writers and artists, and now operates nearly a full house in terms of bookings. It hosts literary events as well as some music and dance.
