Search for new Singapore Hawker Masters begins
After more than 14,000 public votes determined the top candidates for the third instalment of the Singapore Hawker Masters, the panel of judges set off this morning to try out the finalists in the lontong category.
The Malay dish of rice cakes in coconut gravy with vegetables is one of six dishes in the annual hunt for excellent hawker fare organised by The Straits Times and Lianhe Zaobao.
The other categories this year are bak kut teh, carrot cake, yong tau foo, prawn noodles in soup and Indian rojak.
Bak kut teh was among the dishes last year, but the judges could not agree on a winner, and the panel will work on finding a worthy stall this year.
