Jurong East is being transformed into a boomtown for retail and entertainment. In just over a year, there will be a total of four shopping malls housing two cineplexes and international brands such as H&M and Uniqlo as well as department stores Isetan and Robinsons.

The influx of new malls near Jurong East MRT started in around 2009, when 1990s Jurong Entertainment Centre was demolished to make way for shopping mall JCube, which opened in April this year.

Next year, Jem mall will open, followed by a new next-door neighbour, retail and office building Westgate.

Nearby, 21-year-old IMM is undergoing a $30 million revamp to become an outlet centre with 40 to 50 stores including popular brands such as adidas, City Chain and Billabong. The transformation is expected to be completed by mid 2013.
