Polish designer's ottoman tops Furniture Design Award
Seven months, and 1,600 linen shapes later, a crocheted pouf has been awarded the top design prize at this year's Furniture Design Award in the Designer Category.
Polish designer Piotr Saladra, 38, was announced as the winner yesterday at *Scape, following a final round of judging by a nine-member panel that included local industry luminaries such as homegrown designer Hans Tan and Ineke Hans from the Netherlands.
There were 10 finalists in the annual award which focuses on furniture - five in the Designer category, and five in the Student category. This year's theme "Co-exist" had designers making green, sustainable furniture.
There were 343 entries, from 31 countries. Finalists designers have to work with manufacturers, where necessary, to make a prototype of their design.
