You do not need to be a professional songster to belt out songs in public at the People's Association's first community-wide singing festival.

The six-week-long PAssionArts Singing Festival begins on Saturday.

It features 15 mass sing-a-long events in locations ranging from community sports halls and markets to the floating platform at Kallang River and the now-defunct Tanjong Pagar Railway Station.

Songs that will be sung at these free public events include popular oldies from the 1960s and contemporary hits, as well as Bollywood, Malay and Chinese dialect songs.
