Four such shops have opened in the last six months: WoW The Galleria in Tagore Lane stocks reworked wood furniture; The GoDown in Zion Road has a sizeable collection of nostalgia-inducing furniture, glassware and metal luggage; Baan Vintage store in East Coast shopping mall Roxy Square II, which will sell you vintage cupboards as well as retro dresses to put in them; and The Damn Good Shop in Maxwell Road, which offers tongue-in-cheek knick-knacks from yesteryear.
They join more established players such as Like That One, a retailer specialising in vintage home furnishings which opened in Bukit Batok in 2009; and Second Charm, set up in the Kallang Avenue industrial area some 11 years ago.
Most of the furniture in these stores is sourced from neighbouring countries like Thailand, Indonesia and Myanmar - where homeowners are less renovation-happy than Singaporeans and old pieces more easily found.
