New Taiwanese girl group Popu Lady is confident of their ability to be successful, despite the current surfeit of girl groups from Japan and Korea.

"We have a strong agency that has proven themselves in terms of music production," says Liu Yu-shan, 22, a member of the quintet.

The agency in question is H.I.M International Music Company, which also manages S.H.E, Mandopop's most successful girl group. S.H.E, which consists of Selina Jen, Hebe Tian and Ella Chen, are seniors of Popu Lady and the two groups share a close relationship.

Popu Lady member Lin Yin-chen, 23, who goes by her stage name Da Yuan, says: "As seniors, they often cheer us on. S.H.E. is irreplaceable as Mandopop's representative girl group. It is our goal, as a group, to emulate their success."
