New local movie aims to break new boundaries

The producers of upcoming local movie re:solve are touting it as Singapore's first police action-thriller. But its director Randy Ang, 34, prefers to downplay the film's blockbuster tone.
"We didn't mean it to be that way. I want to challenge the convention of what a film in Singapore can be. If it can become bigger than what it is, that's great. It may not be my doing.
"The industry deserves something different from the usual films. This type of action film is something that we are kind of familiar with but haven't tried out."
The action flick, with a budget of $1.2 million, revolves around Inspector Chen Shaoqiang (Taiwanese idol star Chris Lee), as he solves various heists and murders while dealing with his past. It also stars Taiwanese model Mico Chang and local actors Sunny Pang, Pamelyn Chee and Zheng Geping.
