Veteran arts administrator Choo Thiam Siew is stepping down on March 31 after more than 10 years as president of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Nafa).

He has been appointed first chief executive officer of the upcoming Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre.

The centre aims to be a hub for arts, culture and networking for the Chinese community here. It will be housed in a 10-storey building currently under construction in Shenton Way behind the Singapore Conference Hall, to be ready next year.

His successor at Nafa was not officially named in Thursday's press release from the school, but a Lianhe Zaobao article that day said, citing unnamed sources, that the new president would be Mr Chia Mia Chiang, currently principal of Ngee Ann Polytechnic. The polytechnic declined to comment.
