Skiing has become a hot vacation option for Singaporeans. An increasing number of thrill-seekers are opting for winter holidays devoted to, or which include, skiing, in Korea, China and Japan, and further afield to France and Switzerland.
Travel agents such as Chan Brothers Travel and ASA Holidays tell SundayLife! that they have seen annual growth in sales of ski packages of between 15 and 20 per cent over the past three years.
While the bulk of the sales comes from group packages in which novice skiers can, among other sightseeing activities, experience the sport during a one or two-day stay at a ski resort, there is an increasing number of serious skiers who are snapping up free-and-easy packages which focus on skiing.
Prices of all-inclusive group tours to Korea, China and Japan spanning seven to nine days range from $600 to $2,400 a person, while a four-day free-and-easy ski holiday with airfare and accommodation in Korea costs about $1,000 per person and up to $7,000 per person for an eight-day package to the French Alps.
