London - A major exhibition on the career and cultural influence of British singer David Bowie has sold more than 42,000 advance tickets at London's Victoria & Albert Museum.

That is a record and more than twice that sold for any other show at the V&A, according to the museum.

David Bowie Is, as the museum is titled, opens on Saturday and will run through Aug 11.

On display will be more than 60 of the stage costumes belonging to the British icon, who has inspired fans for years with his androgynous, glam-rock look and sharp dressing.
