Malaysian guitar maestro Az Samad says he can teach absolute beginners how to play pop songs on the guitar in just one-and-a-half hours.

He says: "You don't have to play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star if you like a rock band like Incubus. You can even learn a Taylor Swift song if you want."

The 32-year-old will be conducting two classes, both on March 10, at this year's Mosaic Music Festival. It is part of a series of music workshops by seasoned musicians during the Esplanade's annual music fiesta.

Az, who has taught at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston and recorded with Grammy award-winning musicians, says participants will accomplish three things by the end of the workshop: have a basic foundation in guitar technique, learn a few chords and be able to play percussion, using the body of the guitar as a drum.
