Aspiring and established songwriters and composers will receive financial aid to attend music courses, under a new initiative by two government bodies. This was announced yesterday.

The Media Development Authority (MDA) and Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA) have partnered with music companies Ocean Butterflies Music and Funkie Monkies Pop Music School to offer a new series of training programmes in songwriting and music arrangement.

Successful applicants will study under renowned homegrown songwriters and music producers Billy Koh, Eric Ng, Jim Lim and Xiaohan and subsequently get the chance to pitch their works to film and TV producers, record companies and top regional pop artistes.

Up to 80 individuals are expected to benefit from this programme in the first year. Applications are open from now and close March 1. For details, click here.
