Two joggers falling in love on their running route around a reservoir. A broken romance between an Indonesian maid and a Malaysian foreign worker. A young woman visiting her cousin in prison.
These slice-of-life stories will be the focus of the Singapore theatre offerings at the upcoming M1 Singapore Fringe Festival, which runs from Jan 16 to 27. The first two scenarios are from C.I.N.T.A. by Teater Kami while the last is from Best Of by The Necessary Stage
Award-winning actress Siti Khalijah, 27, stars in Best Of, a one-woman show written especially for her by playwright Haresh Sharma, 47. He created a fictitious character based on informal interviews with Siti and casual conversations with friends.
The production takes a look at a day in the life of a young Malay woman in Singapore dealing with a divorce, and the struggles she faces in her relationships with other people. Teater Kami's C.I.N.T.A. is a series of five interlocking stories dealing with the various aspects of love in Singapore. From a cameraman enamoured with his subject, a glamorous model, to a woman quarrelling with her ex-husband, the vignettes put the spotlight on everyday relationships. Actors Dalifah Shahril, 33, and Anwar Hadi, 32, star in this play written and directed by the latter.
