The latest hopping foodie enclave in town is the Little India and Jalan Besar area. Four eateries with niche concepts have opened over the past six months in the area traditionally dominated by Indian restaurants and silk and jewellery shops.

These include restaurant cum music store Broadcast HQ, and American diners Wheels & Wieners and Suprette. They join the likes of older establishments that are always packed with hungry diners, such as Swee Choon Dim Sum on Jalan Besar, as well as Ananda Bhavan Vegetarian Restaurant at Syed Alwi Road.

The Little India neighbourhood clusters around a 1km stretch along Serangoon Road and the area is bound by Jalan Besar, Sungei Road, Race Course Road and Rowell Road.

The new entrants are attracted to the mix of cultures and traditions in the neighbourhoods. Rentals are also affordable compared to hip foodie enclaves such as Tiong Bahru, where rents have doubled in the last two years.
