The inaugural Singapore Design Week will take place from Mar 10 to 16 with more than 50 events, most of which will be open to the public.
Design fans can look forward to activities such as Design Trail; Creative Circuits, where participants can choose between two routes consisting of different pitstops to designers' studios and well-designed spots around town; screenings of films with design-centric themes; and forum sessions with members of the design community.
Mr Jeffrey Ho, executive director of the DesignSingapore Council, which is organising Singapore Design Week, says: "We wanted to have a design week where we could develop the design sector, help businesses see physically how good design can help them, and for the general public to understand how design affects the everyday. We hope that the first design week here will address that."
While DesignSingapore Council has about 12 key events, its partners such as Singapore Furniture Industries Council and DesignS, a network of eight national design associations and institutes which include the Design Business Chamber Singapore and The Design Society, will also hold their own events under the Design Week umbrella.
