NEW YORK (AFP) - Award-winning US political thriller House Of Cards will return for a hotly anticipated second season on Valentine's Day, online streaming service Netflix announced on Wednesday.

The release of all 13 episodes on Friday, February 14 will give single fans a quality Valentine's Day option - or offer couples a romantic weekend of binge television-watching.

The made-for-Netflix TV show stars Oscar winner Kevin Spacey as scheming congressman Francis Underwood and Wright as ice-queen wife Claire, a ruthlessly ambitious Washington power couple.

Netflix says the drama - based on a 1990 BBC series set in London - "slithers through the back halls of greed, sex, love and corruption in modern Washington DC."
