Hong Kong actor Benny Chan: From molestation scandal to family man

For years, actor Benny Chan did not make a mark in the TV industry in his native Hong Kong.
Given only one supporting role after another at broadcaster TVB, he was largely forgotten except for his involvement in a molestation scandal in November 2011 - he was photographed forcibly grabbing actress Rose Chan, touching her inappropriately and kissing her.
Despite his difficulties in his hometown, he has since seen his star rise considerably in China. Chan, who was among the first group of Hong Kong actors making their foray up north, starred in his first Chinese TV series as early as 2001.
The 43-year-old was in town recently to promote a massive China hit, Love Amongst War, which airs on Jia Le Channel (mio TV Channel 502) on weeknights at 7pm. The period drama, about the star-crossed relationship between a rich girl and a poor man, quickly shot to No. 1 in viewership ratings in the whole country in its timeslot. It remained the top TV drama there for 10 consecutive weeks.
