One of the reasons that the television drama thriller Homeland is so compelling is the high-strung intelligence operative Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) - and her enigmatic relationship with returned prisoner-of-war Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis).

Speaking over the telephone from Israel, the show's Emmy-winning executive producer Ran Telem, 44, tells Life!: "You never know if she falls in love or she just plays with him. That's one of the main engines of Homeland."

And it is one that could not have played out the same way in the original Israeli series, Prisoners Of War, which inspired Homeland, because the Carrie character in that is a man.

Season 2 of Homeland is currently available on-demand through mioTV's Season Pass on channel 840.
