Seoul - The agency of Girls' Generation has denied rumours that Kim Hyo Yeon, a member of the popular K-pop group, tried to commit suicide.

The 25-year-old was questioned by the police on suspicion of hitting a male acquaintance in the face on Sunday after she pretended she was going to jump out of a balcony and the man tried to hold her back, said Yonhap News Agency.

Her agency, SM Entertainment, described the incident as a misunderstanding.

But rumours spread online that Kim had tried to kill herself because she was bullied by the other members, said Soompi website.

On Wednesday, SM Entertainment said it would take legal action against those spreading the false rumours.
