NEW YORK (AFP) - The publishers of Harper's Bazaar on Thursday named Carine Roitfeld, the trend-setting former editor of Vogue Paris, to the newly created position of global fashion director.

In a statement, Hearst Magazines said Ms Roitfeld - who quit the French edition of Vogue in December 2010 - would collaborate "on several stories a year" for all 26 international editions of Harper's Bazaar.

It added that Ms Roitfeld, 58, "will give her own unique take on the key fashion trends each season" while pursuing her other projects, such as her own recently launched CR Fashion Book magazine.

"I am thrilled to be contributing to Bazaar, a brand with a rich history of creativity," Ms Roitfeld - who gave Vogue Paris an edgy rock-chick flavour during her 10 years at its helm - said in the statement.
